Farm 1 was an urban adventure, in Maple Valley, Wa as Lahar Valley Farm. We decided to look for acreage at the end of 2017 when we realized we could only attempt part of what we wanted to do, simply because of size (we were on only a third of an acre).
Farm 2 came in the late winter of 2018, as spring was coming. We sold the property, and moved to Freeland, Washington which is a rural town, on the south end of Whidbey Island. We are have been converting 5+ acres into a homestead/farm. We are duplicating things we did on the first land, and making it even bigger. Our new farm sits in growing zone 8A, which is considered temperate, but can be challenging due to the constant winds off of the Salish Sea. Our ecoregion is 2d – Olympic Rainshadow. We don’t get as much rain as our previous farm did. Summers are dry and pleasantly warm.
When we first moved to Whidbey Island the farm operated under Never Free Farm, the brand for Sarah’s herbalism.
We are family owned, run by me (Sarah) and Kirk, and our 3 boys, along with a smattering of ducks & chickens. We operate using organic practices, however we are not organically certified. We work with being sustainable, water reclamation, and solar power.
